Clayton Howard “Casey” Anderson 87, of Strasburg, CO. Casey passed away peacefully on 30 September, 2017 at Prairie Creek Living Center in Strasburg, Colorado. He was born 16 September 1930 in Great Falls, Montana, the son of Conrad V and Engeline (Blais) Anderson and was raised on the family ranch near Roy, Montana.
He married his first wife, Helen Carol Lode, in 1951 and they first lived in Lewistown, MT. In 1958 the family moved to Great Falls, MT where he worked for the Montana Farmer Stockman until 1962 when the family again moved, this time to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada where he was editor of the “Westerner” magazine. In 1968 Casey’s family moved to Guelph, Ontario, Canada where he was the Secretary of the Canadian Aberdeen Angus Association. In 1969 the family again moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada where Casey was the General Manager for Caravell Land and Cattle Company, Canadian Division. In 1970 Casey started CA Livestock (International) and was instrumental in introducing the Simmental cattle breed from Europe to Canada and the US. In 1972 he managed the first million-dollar beef cattle sale at the National Western in Denver, CO. He was a long-time member of the National Western Association in Denver, CO. He and Helen divorced in 1974 and he moved to Kansas City, MO where he headquartered his company for many years. He married again in 1975. In Carbondale, CO he sold real estate. In the 1990’s he founded Ag Management, Inc in Kansas and Missouri, consulting through the US State Department about the beef cattle industry and beef genetics in the former Soviet Union and eleven countries on four continents. He retired about 2002 in Byers, CO. In retirement he travelled extensively to Mexico, South America, and Asia. Casey was an accomplished photographer and enjoyed studying history. His outgoing personality and knowledge of the beef cattle industry has touched many people.
He loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fly-fishing which he missed in his later years.
He is survived by his son LTC (Ret) Daniel (Margie) Anderson of Wichita, KS and four daughters: Sandra Birch of British Columbia; Cheryl Anderson-Kober of Laurel, MT; Anita (Jerry) Vandergriendt of Fort Wayne, IN, and Linda Anderson of Raleigh, NC; 8 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.
Casey was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Alvin and Gordon, ex-wife Helen Fowler, son Kenneth Mark Anderson, grandson Russell Alexander Birch and great granddaughter Caton Anderson.
Graveside Services for Casey Anderson will be Friday, October 13th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lewistown City Cemetery, Lewistown, MT. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
