He spent time in San Diego for boot camp and then was stationed on the U.S.S. Wasp Aircraft Carrier. He often laughed and told many stories about how that it took 35 Marines to handle a “ship full of Navy guys.” Gary was very proud of his Marine career and mentioned many times that no one would ever believe how far he had gone on the ship. In the little over 2 years, he was on the ship he had crossed the Equator multiple times and the Artic Circle and always told us kids that he had gone around the world 3 times. Even went so far as to put up a giant world map in the hallway and marked with highlighters every port he had gone through. Gary had completed his tour with the Marines and then was united in marriage to Sheila Y. Brown on December 11th 1976 in Moore. Gary and Sheila had 4 children together Brett, Erin, Amie and Raelynn.
