Barbara A. Harchenko

Barbara A. Harchenko 85 of Lewistown died Sunday evening in Benefis Healthcare in Great Falls following a short illness. She was born December 27, 1932 in Beach, North Dakota the daughter of Hugh and Rachel (Zielsdorff) Ross.   Raised on a farm as a "tom boy". She loved being outdoors with her dad and taking care of lambs, calves, kittens and our dog. At age six my mother decided it was time for Barb to take piano lessons, which she did for eight long years. She did not enjoy all of the practicing. She was fortunate that she had a very patient mother. She received her education in Beach graduating from High School there, then attended Walla Walla College in Washington and Bismarck, Nd school of nursing. She returned to Beach and helped on the farm and then worked in Beach. On August 2, 1959 she was united in marriage to Clifford Harchenko in Beach. He worked for the USDA SCS and they made their home in Glasgow for a short time, then to Sidney for 14 ½ years. They joined the Eastern Star Lodge Richland Chapter #62. Their children Paul and Ruth both were born in Beach, ND. They later moved to Baker for one years and then to Lewistown. Barb was active in the Zion Lutheran Church and a stay at home mother. Barb was active in the Zion Lutheran Church and a stay at home mother. She was Organist for over 40 years at Zion Lutheran Church and the Order of Eastern Star. She also played for many weddings and funerals.

Clifford retired in 1989 and the tow of them spent time with their children and grandchildren, enjoyed fishing and camping. He preceded her in death in 2008. Barb continued to live in Lewistown close to her son, she has knitted numerous blankets, lover to play bridge and baking. Her favorite past time was meeting friends for coffee and she loved her dog Bear.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church serving as Organist for over 40 years and the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by one son Paul (Chris) of Lewistown; six grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a daughter Ruth, her two brothers and her parents.

Memorial Services for Barbara A. Harchenko will be Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Zion Lutheran Church, committal will be in the Lewistown City Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
