Dale C. Hisler

June 17, 1946 — February 4, 2017

Dale Curtis Hisler 70 of Denton, MT passed away early Saturday morning, February 4, 2017 in the Central Montana Medical Center. He was born June 17, 1946 in New London, NH the son of Oakley and Helen (Call) Hisler. Dale grew up in Sutton and New London, New Hampshire. As a young man, Dale’s interest in cooking lead him to attend the Culinary Institute of America. He later worked as a chef before he was drafted to Vietnam serving in the United States Army for 2 years. Upon his return, Dale became very interested in living the way Native Americans lived. He lived in a tipi while building his own log cabin, attended powwows, tanned hides, went hunting and sewed pipe bags and moccasins. As a third-generation mason, Dale also took on a new career building stonewalls, walkways, fireplaces and custom ovens.

Dale loved his community and he took the time to share his talents by training and assisting his neighbors in the building of their own ovens. As a master mason, his work was well known throughout New England.

For the last 26 years of his life, Dale lived in Montana where he truly felt at home. He spent his time with dear friends and enjoyed the beauty of Big Sky country while riding on the back of Sluggo, his loyal horse.

Those closest with Dale will remember him for his unconditional love and friendship. He was a very caring and giving man who lived a very simple life.

Dale is survived by his brother, Dennis (Sally) of New Bury, NH; his sons Hinmaton (Samantha) of Midlothian, VA and Pram Dass (Nicole) of Tampa, FL; stepdaughters, Tracy Dane (Blake) Deeney of Hansen, MS and Tammy (Marco) Leone of West Barnstable, MS; 10 grandchildren; the mothers of his children Ginna Bourisseau of North Carolina and Roberta de Masellis of St. Petersburg, FL; several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his service dog, Dakota, who cared for Dale in ways no one else could.
