Diane L. Dengel

Diane L. (Waggoner) Dengel, 74, of Stanford passed away peacefully early Tuesday morning, April 6, 2021 at her home after a courageous 555 day battle with lung cancer.

Diane was born October 20, 1946 in Lewistown, MT, the daughter of John & lsabel (Melton) Waggoner. She received her schooling in Grass Range & Stanford.

On March 14,1964 she married Duane Dengel in Lewistown. They moved several times before settling in Stanford in 1973.

Diane worked at Exxon Mobil refinery, Eastern Montana College, Annie's Upholstery, and at the Stanford School as a bus driver & cook. She then attended Barber College in Great Falls and after her graduation, she owned & operated Eagle Barber Shop for over 10 years. ln May 1994 she began working for Wicken's Construction as a laborer and heavy equipment operator until her retirement in 2O11. After retirement she was busy volunteering in the Stanford community. Summer found her tending to flowers in her yard and helping to care for the many flowers planted downtown. She was immensely proud of how beautiful town was during the summer. Diane was very involved in the lives of her grandchildren & great grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. Rumor has it she bragged about them often.

Diane enjoyed being outside regardless of the season. She enjoyed skiing, hiking and kayaking. She also enjoyed traveling and was able to travel to Italy, Switzerland, Ireland, Croatia and several US states. Diane and Duane enjoyed a trip to Alaska to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Duane Dengel of Stanford; children Anita (Mark) Smith of Lewistown, Arthur Dengel of Hudson, WI; brother Bill Waggoner of Portland, OR, sister Nancy (Harold) Simmes of Vaughn; grandchildren Lindsay (Frank Walsh) Strozzi, Kyle (Chloe) Strozzi, Lane Smith, Malena Dengel and Max Dengel; great grandchildren Khloe Rausch, Steele Strozzi, Lennon Walsh. Sisters-in-law Alta Pallett, Carol (Kevin) Warren, brothers-in-law George Dengel, Bud (Sherry) Dengel, Richard (Donna) Dengel, Bill (Pat) Dengel, Don (Vickie) Dengel, several nieces, nephews and cousins and her beloved dog Sadie.

She was a member of the Basin Bible Fellowship Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Frances Ostertag, brother-in-law Frank Ostertag and brother-in-law Wayne Pallett.

Memorial service is 2pm Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Stanford City Hall. Cremation has taken place.
