Don F. Baldwin 65 of Coffee Creek died unexpectedly of natural causes on November 16, 2017 at home in Coffee Creek, Montana. Donnie was born on March 6, 1952 in Washington D. C. to Don and Mary (Coggins) Baldwin. Donnie had an inquisitive mind and many interests. At a very young age, working with his father, he built his first crystal radio. When he was in high school he started his own "underground" radio station that was a thrill for all teens in a 2 mile radius until the FCC dropped by to inform him that you had to have a license to broadcast a radio station! He was a talented musician. He was fascinated by antique bottles (he and his buddies did extensive excavation of abandoned homesteads on the Eastern shore of Maryland and unearthed an impressive collection dating back to the early 1800's). Donnie also had a love of gardening. While in high school he tended a huge garden at home which included a large section dedicated to flowers for his mother. For a time after high school he worked at the University of Maryland Agricultural Research Farm where he expanded his knowledge of growing stellar produce.
He graduated from James M. Bennett High School in Salisbury, Maryland. He was a self-taught geologist which ultimately lead to his own business, Baldwin Geological Consulting. He and his wife Margie, who were together for 35 years, spent many years running a laboratory at oil drilling sites across the plains states which eventually led to Don and Margie settling in Coffee Creek, Montana. Since his retirement he returned to his lifelong loves of music, electronics and gardening.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents and his step-son, D. R. (Dennis Ray) Conley.
He is survived by his loving wife, Margie (Mauch) Baldwin, grandchildren, Dennis R. Conley Jr., Alex Conley, Kalynn Conley, and Ryley Conley, great-grandchildren, Kaiden Conley, Elijiah Conley, Evelyn Conley and Cameron Castor, as well as by his sisters, Kathryn (Mike) Robinson, Mara (Vivian Opelt) Lewis, Tama (John Mann) Baldwin and Jenifer (Eric Jeitner) Baldwin, and nephews Sean (Rachel) Robinson and Justin Robinson.
No Services will be held for Don Baldwin, cremation has taken place at his request. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.cloydfuneralhome.com.
