Dorothy Jean Matovich, 91, of Grass Range passed away Christmas morning 2023, of natural causes at Caslen Assisted Living where she resided. She was born on September 26, 1932 to parents Riley & Leona Brown in Lewistown, MT.
Dorothy was raised on the family ranch at Gilt Edge, MT. After her schooling she worked at various jobs in Lewistown. In 1951 she married Dewey Matovich. They ranched at Grass Range until Dewey's death, also in December, in 2013. She enjoyed raising a garden & raised and butchered her chickens, while raising her 10 children. In her younger years Mom played women's basketball and was active in Grass Range PTA. She also played the piano by ear and she and Dad loved to dance. After her children were older, she enjoyed painting ceramics & her job at Daum's General Store. She liked to play cards with any willing players or grab a fishing pole and head to the creek.
She is survived by her 10 children- Jean (Loyd) Bantz, Tilda Whiteman, Helen Jones, Mark (Karen) Matovich, Eva (Todd) Foran, Gary Matovich, Larry Matovich, Mary Lou (TJ) Stulc, Ann (Kraig) Bergum, Diana (Tim) Keefer, 30 grandchildren, & 56 great-grandchildren.
She is proceeded in death by her husband of 62 years, Dewey, her son-in-law, John Whiteman Jr., sisters, Helen & Fern Brown, Jessie Komarek, Alice Dunn & her brothers; John, Ted, Pete, Dexter and James Brown.
Visitation will be Friday, December 29, 2023 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Cloyd Funeral Home in Lewistown. Funeral services will be Saturday, December 30, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Grass Range High School. Roy Koch will be officiating. Please join the family after the service at The Wrangler in Grass Range for a reception.
