Doyle L. Helm 81 of Lewistown died Sunday morning, January 19, 2020 at his home of natural causes, with his Grandson, Riley Colver, by his side. Doyle was born in Imo, AR on April 1, 1938 the son of Hurley and Eula (Gates) Helm. Work ethic was taught from an early age as he was proudly picking cotton by the age of 5; and always shared the story of being able to pack a 100 lb. bag by the age of 7.
Dad met Carole Brockway while working for her father at the River Ranch in Carmel Valley, CA. They were married on July 1, 1960 in Monterey, CA. They then began their life of raising five children: Stan of Lewistown, MT; Tom (deceased); Brad (Mary) of Wichita, KS; Matt of Lewistown, MT; Leslie (Fred) Colver of Lewistown, MT.
Dad worked as a building contractor for several years in California before moving his family to Montana in 1973 to pursue a life of ranching and construction. Mom was finally home as she was always true to her Montana roots. He started Helm Construction in Stanford, MT and continued his business in Lewistown until his retirement in 2000. His son, Matt, owns and operates the business today. After retirement, Dad indulged himself in the world of gourmet cooking.
Dad lost the love of his life Carole Marie, in 2010. After Mom was gone he moved to his daughter and son-in-law's ranch north of Lewistown.
Dad's love for horses started at a young age when he trained horses in CA. He always had a good horse that took him on many rides. He was so proud to have ridden The Great Montana Centennial Cattle Drive in 1989. He recently stated he had the honor of having a good horse, a good dog and a good wife. Life had treated him well and we would all be ok.
Doyle was a proud member of the California Carpenter's Union, NRA, 4-H and he taught Hunter's Safety. He was a strong advocate for gun safety.
Doyle was preceded in death by his wife, Carole; son, Thomas David; parents Hurley and Eula; and brother William.
Survivors include his 4 children; 9 grandchildren: James, Nicole, Larina, Riley, Kyle, Jamie, Courtney, Elizabeth and Thomas; 12 great grandchildren and his dog Dot.
Cremation has taken place and a private family committal will be in Central Montana Memorial Gardens at a later date. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
