Freddie H. Voorhees

February 5, 1945 — January 3, 2025

White Sulphur Springs

Freddie Hughes Voorhees passed away on January 3, 2025, in Lewistown, MT. Freddie was born in Somerset, NJ to Stanley and Margaret Voorhees (Gurisic) on February 5, 1945. He grew up in Belle Mead, NJ, and graduated from Princeton High School in 1963.

After graduating high school, Freddie joined the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served. His service included several tours during the Vietnam War where he was an Aerial Gunner. Freddie received many promotions and awards for his service during this time including an Air Medal and a Navy Commendation Medal. He was a proud veteran and could always be seen representing the Marine Corps.

Freddie moved out West from New York and started working in the ranching industry until he transitioned to working in the logging industry. He traveled extensively around the West for jobs throughout the years. His work in helicopter logging took him to some of the most remote parts of the United States, which he enjoyed and fed his many stories of these crazy adventures.

During this time, he got married and had a son, Freddie, who he enjoyed many local trips to Virginia City, Bannack, the Hot Springs, and Dillon Rodeo with. These trips were memorable and led to his Snoopy stuffed animal that his granddaughter has now.

He loved nature and being out in the mountains was his favorite. He enjoyed hunting, horseback riding, hot springs, and hanging with his friends at the local watering hole. He spent the last few years of his life with the love of his life, his dog, Cowboy.

Freddie is survived by his son Freddie (Dani) and two granddaughters Aria and Brinley from Arkansas. Brother Stanley (Dotty) and their children Seth (Amy), Heather (Joseph), and Holly (Craig) and grandchildren Emily and Eli all of New York.

He was preceded in death by both of his parents Stanley and Margeret Voorhees of New York.

Per his wishes, he is being Cremated at Cloyd’s Funeral Home in Lewistown, MT and being laid to rest at the VA Cemetery in Helena, MT. There are no services at this time.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Freddie's honor to the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) or American Legion.
