Garnet H. Bacon

Garnet H. (Tink) Bacon, 90, of Lewistown died early Sunday morning while camping in the Little Belt Mountains of natural causes. Tink Bacon was born December 31, 1928 in a little house in Lewistown. His parents Ross and Bernace (Short) Bacon named him Garnet Henry and called him "Tink". The family moved many times when he was small but he spent most of his growing years on the "ranch" in Heath, Montana. He went to school at the little country school down the road - and according to him he had to walk both ways up a hill with a baked potato in his pocket to keep his hands warm.

He joined the Army in 1946 and served as a guard at Leavenworth Kansas during the Korean conflict.

He married Louise Isaacson in 1950. They had one son Henry in 1951. Louise passed away later that year.

He met and married Azalea Howard in 1952, together they had five children: Don, Ruth, Leslie, Bill and Tracey. At the time of his death Tink and Azalea had been married off and on for 67 years.

Tink had worked for the railroad and the GTA elevators. He started his own business as a contractor and loved doing that until he retired. After his retirement he drove school bus for a few years and had more than a few stories to tell about that.

He was a member of the Friendship Lodge #139 AF & AM of Lewistown, Moose Lodge, and the "Morning Coffee Club" that met every morning at the destination of their choice.

Tink was a good dad but he was an amazing grandfather. He loved his grandkids Olivia, Matt, Luke, James, Jenny, Terrille, Kelsey, Kaylee, Shay, Robby, Angie, and Suzy. He showed them how to bounce on beds - took them fishing and hunting and taught them to love the mountains and the river. He also had them all convinced that the scar on his leg was from a bear that had clawed him.

He loved to fish - anywhere, anytime - He loved to hunt; deer, elk, and birds. He loved his 1952 Chevy; he waited all year to drive it in 4^th of July parade with his kids and grandkids waving from the windows. He loved the American flag - He taught all of his grandkids how to put the flag up his flag pole and what it means to honor our country and its flag.

He is survived by his wife, Azalea; sons Don, Bill and Henry all of Lewistown; daughters Ruth (Chuck) Pentecost of Billings, Tracy Bacon (Kurt Samuels) of Renton, WA, and Leslie Bacon of Billings, MT; sister Leah Kay Roane of Stanford, MT; 11grandchildren and their spouses, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and his good friend Robert Emmerson.  

Tink was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Louise, brother Loren (Sonny) and Earl (Cy) and sister Donna.

A Celebration of Life for G. H. "Tink" Bacon will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 3:00 pm in the Moose Lodge. Cremation has taken place with the Cloyd Funeral Home assisting the family.
