Gerald C. “Jerry” Schlichenmayer

January 3, 1925 — August 8, 2016

Gerald C. “Jerry” Schlichenmayer 91 of Lewistown died Friday morning in the Central Montana Nursing & Rehab Center from complications of a stroke. He had resided at The Villa Assisted Living for the past 14 months. He was born January 3, 1925 in Washburn, ND the son of Jacob and Pauline (Neuharth) Schlichenmayer. He received his schooling in Washburn graduating from Washburn High School in 1942.

He remained in Washburn until entering the United States Army Air Corp in December of 1943, which became the US Air Force in 1947. Serving as a ball turret gunner on a B-17 Flying Fortress Bomber based in England flying bombing missions over Germany during World War II. Following his discharge in October 1945 he returned to Bismarck, ND and employed by a wholesale food distributor and was transferred to Lewistown as a credit manager in January of 1950, where he has resided until his death. On May 28, 1949 he was united in marriage to Kathy C. Zentner in Bismarck, ND. To their union three children were born, Jeri Lynn, Bruce Alan and Brian Keith, all born in Lewistown. Jerry was employed from 1952 to 1957 by several auto dealerships as a credit manager, and in 1957, he began work with the Department of the Army as an Administration Technician for the United States Army Reserve in Lewistown, retiring in 1985 as a Chief Warrant Officer and continued his civilian employment with the Army Reserve until 1987. After retirement, he worked part-time for an auto dealership until 1998. He was also a part-time employee and bookkeeper for the Cloyd Funeral Home for Fifty years.

Jerry was an active member of the Lewistown Eagles Lodge serving as President twice, the Eagles Manor Board of Directors and Fergus Post #16 American Legion all of Lewistown and the 96th Bomb Group Association.

In April of 2013, Jerry traveled to Washington, DC as part of the Montana Honor Flight, which honored Montana WW-II veterans. This trip had a profound impact on Jerry and was definitely a highlight of his many travels and resulted in as special bond and friendship with one of the volunteers on the trip. He also enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids, whether that was here in Lewistown, Seeley Lake of Las Vegas. Jerry had a life-long love and affinity for dogs, and especially enjoyed spending time with his special pal, Diego, at the Villa.

He is survived by one daughter Jeri Lynn (Mike) Haugen of Lewistown, two sons Bruce A. (Betty Hart) of Missoula and Brian (Gina) of Henderson, NV; three grandchildren, grandson Kyle (Lexie Malloy) of Billings, MT; granddaughters Katie and Alexa of Henderson, NV; two sister-in-laws, Marty Schlichenmayer of Las Vegas, NV and Marion Meyer of Bismarck, ND and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years Kathy in 2010, three brothers Daryl, Merle, and Neil and his parents.

Funeral Services for G.C. “Jerry” Schlichenmayer will be Friday, September 9th, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Friends are asked to make memorials to Hospice of Central Montana, the Central Montana Foundation or the charity of their choice and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.
