Glen R. Knox

   Glen Richard Knox (90) passed through heaven's gates on December 26^th. Born in Denton, MT on June 11, 1929 to Paul and Jennie Knox, Glen was the fourth of nine children and was raised on his parents' homestead on Louse Creek near the Judith River. Glen spent the best days of his youth fishing, hunting, playing baseball, and just "messing around down on the creek" with his siblings. Glen also learned to work at an early age as he and his siblings did whatever necessary to help his large homesteading family to survive the Great Depression.

     Glen attended school in Kolin, Moccasin and Lewistown. During his teenage years, Glen took much pride in working as a "bellman" at the Burke Hotel in Lewistown. After High School, Glen spent a few years working around central Montana. During his time, he worked as a "cat skinner" building reservoirs which were part of the county's WPA program. Glen also held jobs at a local car repair shop and the MSU Experiment Station near Moccasin. In 1957, Glen went to work at the Coast-to-Coast hardware store in Lewistown. He very much enjoyed working at the store. He had a sincere fondness for his coworkers and customers alike. After retiring from his full-time position in the 90's, Glen continued to volunteer at the store until age 88 when health issues finally forced him into full-time retirement.

     Glen was a proud veteran in addition to a very proud patriot. At age 21, Glen volunteered for the Army and was honorably discharged in 1952. He spent most of his military service deployed in Germany. Glen had very fond memories of his time in the service and talked often of the friends he made during this period.

   In 1952 Glen met and fell in love with Barbara Ann Berry of Lewistown. The two were married on September 2, 1955. Glen and Barbara raised three healthy, happy children. Mark (Great Falls), Laurie Peterschick (Lewistown) and Steven (Lewistown). The couple spent 58 happy years together until Barbara was called to the Lord on February 1, 2014. Glen put God and family above everything in his life. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family in addition to serving church and community. Glen was an extremely faithful servant of God and was an active member of the First Christian Church in Lewistown. He was also a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Glen absolutely loved sports and watching his children and grandchildren compete in them. He loved the Griz, the Fergus Eagles and the Redbirds. He liked the Broncs, the Mariners and the Bobcats.

     More importantly, Glen was a tremendous teacher and role model. Glen was an extremely kind and honest man. He truly loved God, Family, and Country. He passed many of these virtues on to his children. He was a very content, humble man and led a simple life. His dedication to God and Commitment to "doing the right thing" was an example he set for all who knew him. Dad spent his "golden years" focusing on family. He adored all of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He cherished his time spent with family.

     Glen is survived by his children Mark (Diane) of Great Falls, MT, Laurie (Doug) Peterschick and Steve (Fonda) all of Lewistown; sister Josephine Grinalds of Spokane, WA; brothers Dale (Sharon) of Las Vegas, NV, Dean (Carole) of Portland, OR and Don of Lewistown; 10 grandchildren Sarah Greenberg, Beth Rodgers, Melissa King, Holly Phelps, Kristy Heller, John Peterschick, Mitchel and Diamond Braine, Eric and Sydney Knox; 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his wife in 2014, his parents, one sister Dorothy, three brothers Bud, Paul and Jack.

     Funeral Services for Glen R. Knox will be Thursday, January 2, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the First Christian Church with committal in Central Montana Memorial Gardens at 2:00 p.m. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
