James L. (Jim) Hovden 68 of Lewistown died Wednesday, February 28th, 2018 at his home in Lewistown of natural causes. He was born September 20, 1949 in Great Falls, Montana the son of Roy E. and Pearl L. (Austad) Hovden. The family lived in Lewistown and he attended Lewistown schools graduating from Fergus High School in 1968. He then entered the United States Navy, he was stationed in Memphis, TN and Corpus Christi, TX until receiving his discharge. He returned to Lewistown following his discharge and worked with his dad at Roy's Tire until it closed. He then worked on road construction until he retired.
He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Eagles Lodge, Moose Lodge and Laborer's Union Local #1686.
Jim loved hunting, fishing, golfing, bowling, archery, demolition Derby's, the annual Goodpaster pool tournaments, camping, riding ATV's and he loved cats. "Kitty" was his buddy for many years.
He is survived by his mother Pearl Hovden of Lewistown; one brother Dale Hovden of Helena, MT; three sisters Sandy Goodpaster of Bozeman, MT, Sonja Shields of Idaho Falls, ID and Tina Kelly of Newman Lake, WA; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Roy Hovden and sister Patricia Lynn (Hovden) Kalin.
Graveside Services for Jim Hovden will be held in Central Montana Memorial Gardens, Saturday, May 26th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life for Jim at 2:30 p.m. at the Elks Country Club. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Friends are asked to make memorials to the Pet Assistance League (PAL) or the Veterans Memorial Park. Donations may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home. Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.cloydfuneralhome.com.
