John Fleharty

John Lester Fleharty, age 74, of Lewistown passed away at his home in Lewistown on September 18, 2021. John was born in Lewistown November 2, 1946 to Russell and Fay (Sweeney) Fleharty. He received his education in Lewistown, graduating from Fergus High School in 1965. In high school John played and was a part of the Fergus High School championship football team of 1964.

John continued his education, attending and graduating from MSU Northern with a teaching degree in Industrial Arts. Following his graduation from MSU Northern, John taught school in Eureka and Roundup. During his tenure in college, John worked as a seasonal firefighter before working his way up to a maintenance worker for the Bureau of Land Management retiring in 2009 after a 35 year plus career.

During a social outing, John met Helen Bailey a young lady he would join in marriage, December 26, 1981 at the First Presbyterian Church in Lewistown. The couple made their home in Lewistown. Later in the marriage, their daughter Kyra was born. John enjoyed her growing years, partaking in watching her play basketball. He also was an avid bowhunter.

He was a member of the Lewistown Bowhunters Association, Pope and Young Club, Montana Bowhunters Association and a supporter and member of the Fergus High School Booster Club. John was a large man with a big heart and was a very a talented man. He spent time in his shop creating, building most anything from materials of leather, steel and wood.

John was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Pat Russell Fleharty. John is survived by his wife Helen of Lewistown; daughter, Kyra Fleharty; step-mother, Kathy (Kimbel) Fleharty; sister, Kim (Dave) Ferrell; step-brothers, Tom Petranek and Jeph Fleharty; step-sister, Julie (Rick) Massaro; nephew, Jay Ferrell and niece, Shannon Larson. John is also survived by several extended relatives and friends.

Come join the family and friends during a social event celebrating the life of John Fleharty during the hours of 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021 at the Elks Country Club, 320 Country Club Lane here in Lewistown.

John, as stated above was a member of several organizations. The family suggest that memorials may be made to those organizations or simply to an organization or charity of the donor choice and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.  Condolences for the family may by posted online at www.cloydfuneralhome.com.
