Leona L. Vanommen

Leona Lola VanOmmen 91, of Judith Gap passed away peacefully Monday evening, December 31st, 2018 in Wheatland Memorial Healthcare of natural causes with her husband Paul holding her hand and surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 24, 1927 to George and Clara (Couch) Lauwers in Hedgesville, MT. She attended school in Hedgesville and graduated from Harlowton High School in 1944. On June 3, 1945 she was united in marriage to Paul VanOmmen in Harlowton in a double ceremony with Paul's twin brother Pete and her sister Elza.

Leona was married for 73 years and was blessed with 4 children. She loved quilting, cooking, camping and spending time with her family. She was the chief cook and bottle washer at the Judith Gap School for 29 years. Se was a member of the Judith Gap United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for years.

Leona was a wonderful wife, Loving Mother and Grandmother. Her family was the most important thing to her. She was also very adventurous, traveling with her children.

She is survived by her husband Paul of Judith Gap; children Ray (Gail) of Missoula, MT, Vivian (Dave) Foster and Barb (Ray) Breeding both of Judith Gap, MT, Bud (Cheryl) of Post Falls, ID; one sister Alma (Hank) Bayne of Billings, MT; 11 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great, great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers James and Dell and one sister Elza VanOmmen.

Funeral services for Leona L. VanOmmen will be Tuesday, January 8th, 2019 at 2:00 pm in the Judith Gap United Methodist Church, with committal to follow in Judith Gap Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, January 7th, from 1 to 6 pm in the Cloyd Chapel. Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Friends are asked to make memorials to American Cancer Society of Missoula, Judith Gap United Methodist Church or the charity of their choice and they may be left with the Cloyd Funeral Home. Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.cloydfuneralhome.com.
