Mary Ann Metcalf 94 of Stanford died early Saturday morning, April 7th, 2018 in Pueblo, CO of natural causes. She was born December 19, 1923 in Sauk Centre, Minnesota the daughter of Ralph and Lucille (Borgmann) Steffes. She attended school in Sauk Centre graduating from High School in 1943. She then attended nurses training at St. Gabriel's School of Nursing in Little Falls, Minnesota, becoming a registered nurse in 1947. She worked in hospitals in Melrose, Little Falls and Brainerd, Minnesota. She then went on to do private duty nursing in ST. Cloud and Melrose, Minnesota. In 1954 she moved with relatives to the Los Angeles, California area where she met John A. Metcalf. They were married on March 8, 1958 in Los Angeles. They returned to his ranch in Montana where they worked and lived near Stanford until 1978 when they moved into Stanford. They continued to operate the ranch until retiring in 1984 due to John's heath. They traveled to Arizona in the winters returning to Stanford in the summers until 2006. They took many trips and enjoyed their retirement until John's death in 2009.
Mary Ann continued living in Stanford following John' death, until 2016 when she moved to Pueblo, Colorado.
Mary Ann was very community minded working for the Red Cross Bloodmobile as a County Chairman for several years, a 4-H leader and taught religious education at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Stanford for many years, a member of the SET Club of Denton and was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. She enjoyed serving her community and she did many crafts.
She is survived by sons Ken (Betsy) of Simi Valley, CA and Bill of Stanford, MT; daughter Rosanne (Dan) Ernst of Pueblo West, CO; brother Rev. Raymond Steffes, O.S.C. of Onamia, MN; sister Mona Denny of Wayzata, MN; sister-in-law Bonnie Steffes of Westfork, AR; brother-in-law Melvin Weyhrich of Marietta, GA; two grandchildren Samantha (Milo) Bushman and son Miles of Pasco, WA and Joshua (Jessica) Ernst of Albany, OR and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Jean Johnson and Lorraine Weyhrich and brothers Ralph and Richard.
Memorial Services for Mary Ann Metcalf will be Friday, April 13th, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with committal to follow in the Stanford Cemetery, vigil services will be Thursday, April 12th, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
