Maxine A. Burton

Maxine A. Burton 89 of Lewistown died Friday evening, November 29, 2019 in the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes. She was born Maxine Addiline May 7, 1930 in Lewistown the daughter of Dallas and Lena (Schaefer) Goodan. She received her education in Lewistown graduating from Fergus High School in 1948. She then attended the Great Falls Academy of Beauty Culture graduating in April of 1949. She returned to Lewistown and worked at the Mecca Barber & Beauty Shop. On September 1, 1951 she was united in marriage to Sam E. Burton in Lewistown. They made their home in Lewistown and in the late 1950's she opened her own beauty shop in the basement of their home. Maxine operated her beauty shop until retirement in 2015.

Maxine enjoyed knitting, crocheting, reading, but most of all, family time. She was the one that would organize family reunions and conference calls with her siblings; family was her life.

She also enjoyed watching professional football, the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and most recently the Seattle Seahawks, were a couple of her favorites, as well as a number of basketball teams in the NBA.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewistown and Marie Chapter #36 Order of Eastern Star of Lewistown.

She is survived by her children Susan Burton Spurgeon of Missoula, Sherry (Doug) Cramer of Lewistown, and Sam Burton Jr of Helena; four grandchildren Rick (Jennifer) Spurgeon, Ashley Cramer, Brooke (Marcus) Ivey and Sam Burton III; five great grandchildren Mavryk, Jaxsyn & Ryker Ivey, Grace and Adeline Spurgeon; sister-in-law Peggy Burton of Clinton TN, numerous nieces and nephews as well as her latest 4 legged companion, Murphy.

She was preceded in death by her husband Sam in 1991, one grandson Chris Spurgeon in 2010, her parents, three brothers and two sisters.

Memorial Services for Maxine A. Burton will be Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, cremation and committal in Central Montana Memorial Gardens have taken place. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Friends are asked to make memorials to the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, the Fergus County Council on Aging, or the charity of their choice. They may be left with the Cloyd Funeral Home. Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.cloydfuneralhome.com.
