Oswald Gilbert "Gil" Lehfeldt, 91 was born in Helena, Montana on November 30, 1928 to Bernhard and Pearl (Taylor) Lehfeldt. He was the 8th child of 9. He passed away in the early morning hours of November 28, 2020, just 2 days shy of his 92nd birthday, at his home in Laurel.
Gil enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 16 and served until after the end of World War II.
Following his time in the U.S. Navy, Gil made a career with Mountain Bell. He worked for Ma Bell (as he called it) for 37 years, finishing his career as the manager in Lewistown, Montana. After his retirement, he opened his own electronics business and named it Centana Communications.
Outside of work, Gil served his community. He was a volunteer for the Lewistown Fire Department for over 35 years, he was an E.M.T., he was a member of the MOA and refereed many high school football games, and he was the Exalted Ruler of the Lewistown Elks Lodge #456.
Gil's family was his greatest treasure. On December 15, 1951 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth (Dede) Nicoll in North Hollywood, California. They spent their early years in Stanford, Montana and then lived in Lewistown where they raised their two children, Chris (Holly) Lehfeldt and Cathy (Jerry) Williams.
Gil is survived by his wife, Dede of 68 years; son Chris (Holly) Lehfeldt of Billings, MT; daughter Cathy (Jerry) Williams of Laurel, MT; one brother Herb Lehfeldt in Washington; one sister Sylvia Fred of Salem, OR; four grandchildren Brock (Rebekah) Williams, Cara (Zach) Waitman, Erika (Bill) Wilson, Kelsey (Chad) Gluhm; and eleven great-grandchildren, Kaden, Brecken, Alexa, Camden, Kyler, Mathias, Keaton, Kolby, Henry, Kooper, and Kinley; several nieces and nephews.
Gil was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Rudolph, Julius and Harold; 3 sisters, Adele, Irene, Evelyn and his parents.
Memorial services for Gil Lehfeldt will be held on Saturday, December 5th, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cloyd Chapel, cremation has taken place with committal to be at the Lewistown City Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
