Patricia D. Schultz

d. May 31, 2019

Patricia Diane Schultz died peacefully on May 31, 2019 in Seguin, TX of natural causes.  She began her life in Georgetown, TX, the daughter of Howard and Florine (Mills) Carroll.  She grew up in Austin surrounded by her amazing Mills and Loney families.  Two strong women, her mother and her Grandma Esther (Loney) Mills, helped shape her life.  She graduated from Austin High and later moved to Seguin and married Allen Ray Schultz in December of 1952.

As their family grew, Pat and Allen, moved to McQueeney, TX to be closer to her beloved mother Flo and stepfather, Otto Armbruster. With three active children, Pat was involved in the school and community of McQueeney.  After she and Allen divorced, Pat moved to Lewistown, MT to be closer to family. Several years later, she returned to Seguin.  Pat's career took her from Southwestern Bell, to Acme Brick and then to Motorola.  She had many wonderful bosses and coworkers during her years in Seguin.  As the tech industry took off, many new opportunities became available and her sense of adventure took her to Silicon Valley in 1979.  A great network of friends and former Motorola personnel awaited her in California and she landed at Four-Phase. She later went on to have a very successful career at Sun Microsystems where she received numerous accolades and awards for her innovative work.

Pat's heart was always in Texas and she returned to Seguin upon her retirement in 1994.  With the help of her friend and fellow artist, Don Heitkotter, they transformed both the inside and outside of her wonderful 1920's home.  Pat was instrumental in getting Seguin's Heritage Museum up and running.  She and her long-time friend, Carla Anderson, were able to have a corner of the museum for their new business venture, "Art in Process."

Opportunity knocked again and Pat purchased the historic Heye's Grocery Store building downtown and completely renovated it with the help of family, friends and great area construction crews.  Her vision and energy were endless. She and Carla re-opened "Art in Process" there and spent the next several years displaying and encouraging local artists.  It was the joy of her life.

Under the leadership of friend, Mary Jo (Filip) Langford, Main Street Coordinator, Pat was actively involved in the Seguin Downtown Association. In 1999 she received the Downtowner of the Year award.  Pat spearheaded the creation of a Mural Committee for Seguin, which led to the fundraising, design and installation of a mural showing Seguin's early history on the former Vivroux building at the corner of W. Donegan and S. Austin Streets.

Pat was also an active board and committee member of the Seguin Oakwood Art League.  Her art has been included in many shows and exhibits.  In addition to painting, her passions were reading and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-parents, former husband and her cherished cat Patches.

Pat is survived by her son Duane Schultz of Seguin, daughter Diane (Scott) Lutz of Lewistown, MT and son Gerald (Jo Ann) Schultz of McQueeney, TX.  Six grandsons, Matthew (Lori Ann) Lutz of Lewistown, MT; Brian (Krystal Montgomery) Lutz of Grass Range, MT; Allen (Clair) Schultz of Schertz, TX; Ryan Schultz and Patrick (Shannon) Schultz both of McQueeney, TX; and Austin (LeAnn) Schultz of Seguin.  Great grandchildren Van Lutz; Chelsea, Wyatt and Brady Schultz; Sophia Schultz; Lauren and Raylan Schultz; Kirra and Evan Schultz.  Her favorite artist, Don Heitkotter of Fresno, CA; brother in law Larry Gunckel of Seguin; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in Texas, Colorado and Arizona.

Pat has also survived with the help and love of her amazing friends.  Her love of the community, arts, and artists filled her life with incredible, colorful, remarkable friends.

We are grateful and thankful for Mom's outstanding caregiver, Ms. Regina Lee, who's help and spirit kept Mom happy and safe and kept us all together.

As Pat wished there will be no services and cremation has taken place. A party in her honor will be held at a later date.

Pat would be honored if you would like to plant a tree to beautify your community or donate to the Seguin Main Street Program, the Seguin Downtown Business Alliance, or Guadalupe Regional Hospice Services. Memorials and condolences may be sent to Diane Lutz, 56 Stoveman Lane, Lewistown, MT 59457.  Condolences for the family may be posted online at www.cloydfuneralhome.com.
