Paul Hofer, 71 of King Colony, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, November 1st, 2019 with his loving wife by his side. He was born on August 26, 1948 in Lewistown, MT, the oldest of ten children, to Peter and Mary (Walter) Hofer. Paul lived at the King Ranch Colony his entire life. On October 17, 1976, he married his wife Sarah Tschetter. Paul and Sarah spent 44 years together, raising a family of 4 boys. Paul served the colony in numerous ways. He took care of the poultry and the hog barn and in 1992 he became German School teacher and gardener. Together with his wife Sarah they took care of the garden and taught the colony children for 15 years. Paul took great pride in his work and approached life with a "do what you do do well" attitude. From the early age 26 years old, Paul suffered from diabetes. After many years of struggling with the condition he began to lose his sight and was blind at the time of his death.
He spent his last years at home in the care of his faithful wife, constantly surrounded by his sons and grandchildren, who were his greatest pride and joy. Even though he was without sight he was never discouraged, and always made the best of things, offering countless advice and wisdom. He loved to tell stories and talk about the history of King Colony and of the Hutterite people. There was not much that he did not know. He loved to visit with family and friends, of which he had so many in the surrounding towns and communities. Even though he could not see, he could still dial a phone number and we all received a phone call at least once a day. Paul relied on the Lord to bring him through each day, faithfully singing and praying until the end.
Paul is survived by his wife Sarah, three sons Marvin (Sara), Sammy (Pam), and Toby (Sarah); eight grandchildren Dylan, Tristan, Savannah, Celine, Justin, Bo, Hailey, and Emmitt; brothers Peter, Walter (Rita), John (AnnaMarie), and Joe; sisters Esther (Steve) Walter and Ruth (Bill) Stahl; sisters-in-law Judy (Samuel) and Bertha (David); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Danny, whom he greatly missed and longed to see again, and three brothers Samuel, David, and Edward.
I have fought the good ïght, I have ïnished the race, I have kept the faith. 2 Timothy 4:7
