Raymond L. 'Snake' Plovanic

July 26, 1934 — March 8, 2018

Raymond L. "Snake" Plovanic 83 of Lewistown died Thursday evening, March 8th, 2018 in a Lewistown Care Facility of natural causes. He was born July 26,1934 in Lewistown the son of Raymond F. "Notch" and Angela (Wood) Plovanic. He received his schooling in Lewistown at St. Leo's Catholic School. Before completing his senior year, he entered the Unites States Army and there he received his GED. He served 2 years in Alaska before it was a state. After receiving his discharge at Fort Richardson Alaska, he returned to Lewistown and worked for his uncle John "Whitey" Plovanic in his masonry business. In the early 1960's he started his own masonry business. On September 2, 1961 he was united in marriage to Blanche Heller in Lewistown. They made their home and raised their family in Lewistown and he continued his masonry business until the mid-1980's. He then attended the College of Great Falls and received his Associate of Arts degree in Human Services in 1988. He worked for the Salvation Army in Great Falls for 2 years and then returned to Lewistown and worked with the Chemical Dependency Center until retiring in the mid 1990's.

Ray enjoyed cutting wood, doing wood work in his shop, hunting, hunting for morel mushrooms, hunting for arrowheads, he enjoyed having barbeques and pig roasts under the willow trees, playing cribbage and backgammon and more than anything visiting with people.

He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, Alcoholics Anonymous, Eagles Lodge, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge all of Lewistown.

He is survived by his wife of 56+ years Blanche; his daughters Lisa (Joe) Maynard of Billings, MT and Susan Plovanic (Steve Witte) of Lewistown; siblings Suzie (Ben) Tuss of Lewistown, David (Suzanne) of Great Falls, Michael "Mickey" of Helena, MT, James "Jimmy" of Lewistown, Tom "Curley" (Kathleen) of Missoula, MT and Katie (Tom) Mahoney of Helena, MT; 2 granddaughters Megan and Sarah Maynard and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Bob and one sister Marianne.

Funeral Services for Raymond L. Plovanic will be Thursday, March 15th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with cremation to follow the services. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
