Willard G. Tonne 83 of Stanford died Monday morning, October 7, 2019 at his home of natural causes. He was born August 19th, 1936 at the Culbertson House in Fort Benton, Montana the son of Albert and Rae (Reeves) Tonne. He went through school in Geraldine working on the ranch and driving his 55' Chevy to pick up the ladies. He caught a good one when he married Nancy Vinion on September 21st, 1958, 61 years ago. They began to raise their family in Fort Benton before ending up in Stanford, Montana.
Willard was thoroughly involved with both the Fort Benton and Stanford Communities: he was on the Stanford City Council for twelve years, and served as mayor for four; he was on the fire department for years in both towns; and he served as postmaster for twenty years in Stanford. Willard's most recent involvement was in the form of President of the Stanford Senior Center.
Some of the things Willard loved most was taking walks to the post office and joking with friends around town, spending time with his grandchildren, gardening with Nancy, and going to the high school games to support the local sports teams.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Vinion) Tonne of Stanford, MT; children Sherry Tonne of Great Falls, MT, Alan (Renee) of Fairbanks, AK, and Mark (Cheri) Tonne of Helena, MT; brothers Chuck (Glenda) Geraldine, MT, Wayne, of Great Falls, MT and Jerry (Karen) Tonne of Prescott, WA; grandchildren Serena (Jacob) Smith of Great Falls, Autumn Norris of Great Falls, Jacob and Whitney Tonne of Fairbanks, Alaska, Tyler Bragg of Helena, Trent Tonne of Great Falls, Zachary Bragg of Helena, and Julia Tonne of Missoula; as well as 11 well-loved great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Rita Peters.
Memorial Services for Willard Tonne will be held in the Stanford Presbyterian church on Friday, October 11th, 2019 at 2:00 PM, cremation and committal have taken place in the Stanford Cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is assisting the family.
