William C. "Bill" Haynie 89 of Grass Range passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 30th, 2021 in St. Vincent Healthcare in Billings. He was born July 24, 1931 in Garfield County, Montana on the homestead west of the 7W Ranch in the Missouri River Breaks, the son of James and Goldie (Dunlap) Haynie. He spent his younger years on the homestead. The family moved to the Mission at Custer, Montana and in 1950 he graduated from Custer High School. On December 29, 1958 he was united in marriage to Fay Redding in Crow Agency, Montana. While living on Sarpy Creek he trapped and ran the river while helping build the school at Fort Smith. He later worked at the sugar beet factory in Hardin. In June of 1965 they bought the ranch in Edgar, while working at the Billings Sugar Beet Factory. They bought the ranch in Grass Range in 1975 and made their home there until the time of his death.
Bill loved to fish, trap, be on the river and cowboying in his early years. He was also known as a great dancer, teller of tall tales, good rancher and loved to be with his family.
He is survived by his wife of almost 63 years Fay; one son Craig both of Grass Range, MT; daughters Margaret (Bill) Lynch in Washington, Folly (Glenn) Nelson of Grass Range, MT, Penny Boka (JP Nicholas) of Congress, AZ and LaJette Haynie (Mark Styer) of Grass Range, MT; one sister Lillian Lawrence of Billings, MT; seven grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Emery (Bum) and one sister Marie Dumler.
Graveside Services for William "Bill" Haynie will be Tuesday, July 6th, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Grass Range Cemetery with the Cloyd Funeral Home in charge.
